Local Recreational Reading Rewards Program Kicks Off on August 12With Award-Winning Children’s Author Dan Gutman
Who/What: This summer, children throughout the Brooklyn area will be granted passports to explore exciting places and go on magnificent adventures—without ever leaving town. Cablevision's Power to Learn, in collaboration with Toon Disney and The Brooklyn Public Library Midwood Branch, will kick off Toon Disney's Passport to Reading program, designed to promote reading as an engaging extracurricular activity among children.
To commemorate the program’s launch, award-winning
children’s book author Dan Gutman will make a special appearance and read a
chapter from The Million Dollar Strike – a story about two
boys who rally to save their town's decrepit bowling alley.
All children in attendance will receive their own
copy of the book, which Mr. Gutman will personally sign at the event. The
Million Dollar Strike is reading level appropriate for children ages 8-12.
The Brooklyn Public Library Midwood Branch will
issue participating children aToon
Disney "passport" to maintain throughout their Passport to Reading
adventures. Each time a child completes one book, his or her passport
will be "stamped" with a colorful Toon Disney sticker. Upon completion of the
program, children will receive a Passport to Reading achievement certificate
and a collectible bookmark set.
Dan Gutman is the author of many novels for
