iMainGo
by the Gadget Gals

As the Gadget Gals, we, of course, get loads of gadgets for Christmas, and this year one of our presents was a product called iMainGo. The package said, "You never heard it so good," and we really wondered if this was possible. Probably not. After all, most of the portable speakers and car speakers we've tried with our iPods turned out to be disappointments. Some we could hardly hear, and some had the quality of 1930s AM radio static. Consequently, we weren't too hopeful that the iMainGo would be any different.

Getting the iMainGo Ready to Play

Like a lot of new gadgets the hardest part of using this one was opening the battery area. Sometimes you wonder if they make all these gadgets for the preteen crowd who still have little tiny fingers, but once that was accomplished and four alkaline AAA batteries were popped into their proper spot all was fine. Next an iPod (and by the way any type of iPod can be used-even a Shuffle) was tucked in one side of the case and a headphone jack inserted into the iPod. The last step was to switch the iMainGo from Off to Music and zip up the case. From the outside of the case the iPod was visible through the touch sensitive window.

All that was left to do was to press the button on the iPod through the window and adjust the volume.  Not a problem. The iPod came on, and surprise, surprise... none of that tinny sound like from those other portable speakers the Gadget Gals have tried and despised. The amplified stereo sound coming from the iMainGo was excellent.  -And it was great for listening to books as well as music.

Some Stats About This Little Wonder

  • The batteries will last through about thirty hours of playing time.
  • If your iPod has an alarm, iMainGo can be set to wake you up with your favorite iPod music.
  • It has tuned porting for enhanced bass response.
  • The sturdy case measures less than 6"*4"*3" and comes in pink, blue, silver, green, and black.
  • According to iPod Observer, the iMainGo rocks. The Gadget Gals think so too.

So if you'd like to use your iPod without earphones when on the go, iMainGo will be a perfect addition to your gadget collection. You won't believe the sound because you never heard it so good.

iMainGos can be purchased at Amazon, Sam Goody, f.y.e, and other stores that sell electronics. The cost is about $40.
