Q: What courses of schooling must you complete to become a teacher? - 8th Grade Student

A: Hi, The best course of study for becoming a teacher is to try lots of different things. While you are in high school try as many different kinds of courses as you can so you can figure out if you want to teach lots of different things as an elementary school teacher usually does or if you want to specialize in one subject as most middle and high school teachers do. To be a teacher you have to have a college degree and get certified by the state where you will be teaching. To get that certification you will need to take a certain number of education courses at your college that will help you learn how to teach, write lesson plans, use technology in the classroom and understand other issues you will face in the classroom like how to help students who have learning differences. You must also do an internship in a classroom where you learn about teaching up close by learning from and teaching alongside a teacher who is already in a classroom. Depending on what state you are in, you will probably also have to take some kind of certification exam to get your teaching certification and over time you'll be required to take additional courses to keep your certification current. (That's a good thing because as every good teacher knows you never stop learning!)

Teaching is tough, but one of the most rewarding jobs you could ever chose. Best of luck!
