HOW TO BECOME THE CHALLENGE CHAMPION
Round One: The competition begins in the fall with 32 schools in each region. Teams will advance through a series of elimination rounds. This year in Connecticut only: 21 schools will compete. The 16 highest scoring CT schools advanced to Round Two.
Round Two and Round Three:
Round Two begins the winter with the remaining 16 schools in each region. Teams continue to advance through a series of elimination rounds on their way to The Challenge Finals. The eight schools who win Round Two will stay to play another opponent that same day in Round Three. Schools that play in Round Two and in Round Three will have a half day commitment (3-4 hours) at the competition. Schools that win in Round Three will move on to compete in May 2008 at a location TBA.
Round Four:
May 2008 Competition in NYC (Dates have been announced): Round Four begins with four schools. The two winning schools will advance to play in Round 5 on the same day.
Round Five: The Challenge Regional Finals
May 2008 Competition in NYC (Dates have been announced): The last two schools will play one another in The Challenge Finals immediately following Round Four. The winner of this Round Five match will be crowned The Challenge Regional Champion and will receive $2,500 for their school. They will also advance to the Challenge Tri-State Regionals.
Round Six: Tri-State Regionals
May 28, 2008 Competition in NYC: The five Challenge Regional Champions will compete against one another. The five winning schools are from the Bronx-Brooklyn, Connecticut, Long Island, New Jersey or Westchester -Hudson Valley areas.
In addition to these five schools, their will be one Wildcard school. The Wildcard school will be determined by the non-winning schools with the highest score from their Round Five match.
Automatic Bye Tiebreaker: In the event of a tie score for the position of the one Wildcard school in the Challenge Tri-State Regionals, the school with the most questions answered correctly from their match in Round Five, will be awarded Wildcard status into The Challenge Tri-State Semi-Finals.
In Round Six, The Tri-State Regionals, six schools compete. The highest scoring school receives an automatic bye into Round Eight - The Tri-State Championship. The two remaining winning schools compete in Round Seven.
Round Seven: Tri-State Semi-Finals
May 28, 2008 Competition in NYC: Two schools compete to see who moves on to The Challenge Tri-State Championship. This match takes place on the same day immediately following the Round Six competitions.
Round Eight: Tri-State Championship
May 28, 2008 Competition in NYC: The two schools remaining will compete for the $10,000 grand prize for their school. All 10 students competing in this match will each receive $500, including the alternate. The winning school will be crowned The Challenge Tri-State Champion, will receive $10,000 for their school and The Challenge Cup Trophy.
