How to Participate

To participate in Charity Champions, high schools must:
  1. Apply for participation by October 14, 2011.

  2. Once selected, submit an Activity Plan by October 28, 2011 detailing fundraising plans to the best of your ability.

  3. Submit a W9 to receive $500 seed money for your school.

  4. Provide Power to Learn with a Release Form for participating students.

  5. Fundraising activities/events that are considered eligible during contest period must take place between September 1, 2011 and June 15, 2012.

  6. Invite Power to Learn to attend and cover at least one fundraising event at which, or after which, Power to Learn will donate $1,000 for your charity.

  7. Submit Portfolio by April 13, 2012 – after all activities/events are undertaken/planned, schools will be eligible for the Grand Prize, once they submit a portfolio that includes:

    • Written Summary: a 1-2 page overview that addresses the following three points:

      • Planning – Describe why you chose the charity, what you'd like the impact in your community to be, and how you planned to involve students and other members of the school community or community at large.

      • Implementation – How did you raise the money? Please describe the events and activities, both undertaken and planned.

      • Results – Describe the success of the project: how much money was raised? How many students and members of the community participated? Expected results from as-yet-unexecuted events.

    • Materials: If available, please submit any posters, photos, invitations, flyers or other materials that were created to support and promote the activities. A CD of any video or photos taken can be included. Print outs are also acceptable. The video should not exceed 5 minutes in length.

  8. Winners will be selected and announced on or about April 23, 2012.

  9. Grand prize winners will hold in-school events to receive prize money between
    April 30 and June 8, 2012.
