
Welcome to the 2010-11 Schools Go Green with News12 and Power to Learn. This is a classroom-based, incentive program designed to facilitate the sharing of environmentally friendly classroom programs, their successes and encourage Long Island schools to "Go Green".
Schools Go Green with News12 and Power to Learn invites Long Island teachers to sign up their classes to participate in the 2010-11 program.
Participating teachers will be asked to:
- Undertake, with your students, a new "green" activity/project every 30-60 days
- Report on this activity on the Schools Go Green with News12 Long Island and Power to Learn blog with the intention of sharing the experience (successes, challenges, etc) with other teachers/schools who might want to undertake a similar project (see the pilot program blog for examples)
- Comment on the reports of other teachers, if applicable
Power to Learn and News 12 will provide:
- Schools Go Green with News12 and Power to Learn Web site which will contain
- Blog access
- Suggested "green" activities and resources e.g waste reduction, plantings, recycling initiatives, environmental ed initiatives, etc
- Links to Go Green with 12 segments
- A "12 Tips to Go Green" poster for the classroom
- A classroom starter kit
- An item to reward each participating student at the conclusion of the program in April 2011
- End of program certificates to each participating student
- Local press releases to inform community of class activity
