Connecticut - Darien High School Students Educate Their Classmates In Honor of Financial Literacy Month With CNBC And US Senator Richard Blumenthal
April 26, 2011

Darien, CT - April 26, 2011 - Recognizing the importance of financial literacy, a group of students at Darien High School gave a presentation on finance and economics to fellow students as well as special guests from Power to Learn and US Senator Richard Blumenthal, and State Senator Bob Duff. CNBC Financial Expert Sharon Epperson joined the presentation remotely via conference call. Following welcoming remarks by Senator Blumenthal, State Senator Duff, Principal Dan Haron and Cablevision VP of Education Trent Anderson, students made presentations related to personal finance concepts in recognition of Financial Literacy Month, which is the month of April.  The presentations were on checking accounts, credit cards, and overall investing and financial fitness. Following the presentations, students interacted first in a Q&A with CNBC Financial Expert Epperson via phone, then with the present elected officials.

Senator Blumenthal applauded Cablevision's Power to Learn for the program and praised the students for their informative presentations and insightful questions.  "With today's challenging economic times, the need for financial education is more important than ever," Senator Blumenthal observed.  "Today's Power to Learn event provided the students with a better understanding of how to handle their money and finances.  It's never too early to develop smart financial habits and I congratulate the young people here today on their informative presentation."

State Senator Duff concurred, noting, "Whether saving a portion of a weekly allowance or understanding the deductions on the pay stub from a first job, good money management skills instilled at an early age can last a lifetime."
