View Slide Show >> Four select schools received a visit based on their outstanding performance and participation in the 2006- 2007 Read to Achieve program: PS 89 in Bronx, NY Jackson Main Elementary School in Hempstead, NY Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT School 30 in Yonkers, NY The assemblies were a very upbeat and energetic way to gain and maintain student attention and engagement. There was a blend between motivational segments, student involvement and (positive) musical performances. Some of the themes that were discussed with the students included: - Triple Threat - a basketball related theme that illustrates how a flat ball won't bounce and neither will a flat mind.
- My Back Pack - a life choices theme that takes two backpacks and fills them with bricks representing choices.
- I Can / I Will - a student involvement section to get students pledging some simple deed to change the world.
- Positive Lyric Concert - Songs will be performed by the Williams brothers and guests that include titles like: Next Generation, Just Read, Just Be Yourself and Rise to The Top
The Williams Brothers: Johnnie and Jerome have been visiting schools nationally and abroad for the past 10 years and have reached more than 1 million students collectively. Just recently the brothers released their second "character development" fictional book entitled "Boot Camp" for preteen and teenage readers. Johnnie Williams is an international speaker and youth program development specialist. Jerome Williams is a recently retired NBA player and executive producer of a TV show and series of social documentaries. Together the brothers are an unstoppable force in the category of youth motivation and constantly push towards new and innovative ways to inspire young people. The brothers have just launched a new international student movement (ok adults too!) online http://www.changetheworldmovement.org. Schools can visit the website to find out more of the efforts these brothers have committed themselves too. As a personal challenge to each school receiving their presentation, the brothers would like for teachers and students to join their Great List by visiting: http://www.changetheworldmovement.org/site/the_great_list/join.
