December 6, 2011

Beacon, NY, December 6, 2011 - Power to Learn and MSG Varsity, along with Mayor Elect Randy Casale, recognized Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD) members and health students at Beacon High School for participating in this year's Charity Champions, a program from Power to Learn that promotes volunteerism and encourages area high schools to raise funds for a charity of their choice.  The school was presented with $1,000 to be donated to the American Cancer Society and also received $500 for the furtherance of the students' charitable activities.

The school's activity began with posters being hung in school for "THINK PINK". These posters were papers with options for having semi-permanent "PINK" hair color applied, "PINK" hair feathers, "PINK" shoe laces or "PINK" supporter ribbons. Each day during school the health and SADD students take turns going into the lunch room and study halls taking orders for the "THINK PINK" items they are selling.
