Long Island - Local Suffolk County Elected Officials Join Students at Albert G. Prodell Middle School For a Study On Internet Safety
May 19, 2011

Shoreham, LI, May 19, 2011 - Representatives from Power to Learn, Senator Ken LaValle and New York State Assemblyman Dan Losquadro recognized 7th grade student council members at Albert G. Prodell Middle School as officially being Internet Smart.  Following welcoming remarks by Cablevision's VP of Government Affairs Dan Ahouse, Assemblyman Losquadro, Principal Dr. Linda Anthony, and Guidance Counselor Jennifer Ranellone, the students tackled the subject of Internet Safety through presentations that covered a variety of topics, including Digital Permanence, Misinformation, Online Predators, Cyberbullying and Social Networking.  Assemblyman Losquadro and Senator LaValle spoke to the students regarding responsible use of the Internet and a Q&A followed. Both elected officials signed a giant certificate for the students indicating their completion of the program, and the students then signed a pledge for Internet Safety Awareness which stayed at the school for their classmates to add their names once they've all completed the program.

Assemblyman Losquadro noted, "The students did a great job today tackling a difficult subject.  While the Internet has opened up many opportunities for students, it's vital that safety issues be addressed.  Today's innovative program from Cablevision's Power to Learn did just that."
