Long Island - Students and Parents at Prince of Peace Regional School Get Internet Smart March 30, 2006
On Thursday, March 30, 2006, Cablevision's Power to Learn and Detective Rory Forrestal of the Suffolk County Computer Crimes Bureau visited Prince of Peace Regional School in Sayville, NY to teach parents and students in grades 4-8 about safe use on the Internet. Approximately 100 students from grades four through eight had the opportunity to listen to a presentation from Detective Rory Forrestal on the dangers of "chatting" and meeting people from the Internet. Detective Forrestal's powerful presentation discussed true-life stories as well as ways to be safe on the Internet. Power to Learn representatives discussed a Cyberbullying case study with the students from the Internet Smarts program offered by Power to Learn. In addition to the students, several parents attended a one-hour interactive presentation given by Detective Forrestal. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions throughout the session. Internet Smarts is Cablevision's Power to Learn's signature public affairs program, which provides a forum for teachers and parents to work with children to understand which online behaviors and practices are safe and appropriate and which are not.
