Long Island - The Harborfields Alliance for Community Outreach (HACO) Awarded With A Donation On Behalf of Students At Harborfields High School March 30, 2012
Smithtown, NY, March 30, 2012 - Power to Learn recognized students at Harborfields High School for participating in this year's Charity Champions, a program from Power to Learn that promotes volunteerism and encourages area high schools to raise funds for a charity of their choice. At the event, advisor Maggie Boba spoke about their charity of choice, The Harborfields Alliance for Community Outreach (HACO). HACO is an organization that is currently feeding 1,000 residents in the Greenlawn/Centerport area. HACO shops and sources the food, maintains a pantry at the High School and bags over 80 bags of groceries every month and then personally home delivers directly to the residents in need. It is a one of a kind organization that survives solely on the generosity of donations and local fundraising. Every penny raised goes directly to sourcing food for needy families. In addition, during the holiday season, toys and gift are also delivered to families.
