New Jersey - Memorial Middle School 8th Graders Educate Their Classmates And Speaker Sheila Oliver About Cyberbullying And Its Effects April 28, 2011
Woodland Park, NJ, April 28, 2011 - Power to Learn, along with Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, recognized students at Memorial Middle School in Woodland Park who are now certified as Internet Smart. Following welcoming remarks by Cablevision's VP of Government Affairs Adam Falk, students in Ms. Joanne Kelly's Language Arts class tackled the subject of Cyberbullying through a series of presentations including a filmed skit, narrated video clips and poetry. The students also participated in a Q&A with Assembly Speaker Oliver regarding responsible use of the Internet. They then signed a pledge for Internet Safety Awareness and individual student certificates were distributed to the students by Assembly speaker Oliver and Cablevision representatives. "In today's digital age, I believe it's vital that we equip students of all ages with the necessary resources and knowledge required to safely navigate the web. We read about the tragic consequences of cyberbullying all too often and need to help young people understand that irresponsible online behavior such as bullying can have truly devastating repercussions."
