March 2, 2012

Bronx, NY, March 2, 2012 - Alondra Araujo, the Grand Prize winner of  Power to Learn's 4th Annual "Hispanic Heritage Month" essay contest, was recognized at IS 303 Leadership & Community Service Academy by Assemblywoman Vanessa Gibson and representatives from Power to Learn.  At the awards ceremony, the 6th grader read her winning essay and was awarded a $5,000 savings bond. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Power to Learn and Olympusat Inc. sponsored the essay contest for students in grades 6 through 12 in Cablevision service areas.  Students were required to submit an original essay that answered, in 500 words or less, "How do you identify culturally with other Latinos or with the Latino community and what makes you different or unique?" or "What do the terms Hispanic and Latino mean to you?"  Prizes included a $5,000 savings bond, an Apple iPadT, a laptop computer and a Netbook.  Olympusat Inc. is the provider of such Spanish language channels as Latele Novela, Momentum, ¡Sorpresa!, TV Chile and La Familia, all available on iO TV® as part of the iO en español programming service.

"I'd first like to congratulate Alondra Araujo for her perceptive and well-written essay," said Assemblyman Gibson.  "People of Hispanic descent have played a major role in shaping American culture throughout history and have made important contributions to every facet of American life.  I applaud Cablevision for providing this opportunity to students to celebrate the rich heritage of Hispanic Americans."

"Olympusat's ongoing partnership with Cablevision on this exciting educational initiative is yet another example of our dedication to the Hispanic community and to promoting awareness of their diverse cultural heritage.  We congratulate all of the winners this year for their thoughtful and reflective essays," said Olympusat SVP, Marketing & Business Development Albert J. Estrada.
