The Montauk Lighthouse

Marked on Long Island's eastern most tip, it was constructed by the order of George Washington. The construction of Long Island's oldest lighthouse began on June 7, 1776. It began operating in the spring of 1797. It was originally maintained and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard, but today it is operated by the Montauk Historical Society.
