From the singing of the National Anthem through the halftime entertainment to the songs playing over the Madison Square Garden speaker system as the fans exit, there is a lot going on around the actual basketball game.

Mike Chant is in charge of arranging for, and setting up, all of the entertainment for Liberty games. This includes the in-game videos and music that plays during breaks in the action as well as contests during time outs and between quarters. On game days, Mike is often found putting in 9 to 10 hours in order to have everything ready and make sure it goes off smoothly.

A Love Of Sports

Mike, who graduated with a BA in Marketing from the University of Wisconsin, did several sports related internships to prepare himself for a career in the sports industry. "I've always loved sports," says Mike, "especially basketball."

Personal Qualities

Honesty, trustworthiness, an outgoing personality, professionalism, responsibility and accountability are the personal qualities Mike lists as important to doing this job well. Being organized also helps when keeping a log of the many entertainment aspects of the evening. Having a good eye and ear for the right entertainment to compliment the game and the most innovative promotions to generate fan interest also take special talent that Mike has acquired.

The next time you're at a game and there's a break in the action, remember that the sights and sounds you hear are all part of Mike's job.
