There is a great deal of work that needs to be done to keep a professional team running smoothly. As team assistant, Chris Bernard manages the Knicks office at the MSG Training Center. He also assists players and coaches with administrative obligations and helps record specific statistics as requested by the team's head coach. "I also help with game preparation by editing film and maintaining our video library on a daily basis," adds Chris, who works seven days a week and sometimes as long as ten-hours in a given day.

On and off The Court Training

Chris is familiar with what takes place on the court from his days as a college player at Adelphi University. After gaining his Bachelor's Degree he went on to learn more about the business side of sports by earning his Master's Degree in Sports Management.

He credits marketing, business management, computer courses and serving as a graduate assistant coach with helping him reach his current position. "Computer proficiency in Windows and Microsoft, organizational skills as well as the ability to multi task are all required for this type of job," explains Chris. It also helps that Chris loves basketball and sports in general.

Stay Positive

Chris suggests that you gain as much experience as you can, whether is means working in your school's athletic department or playing for a team. "Internships can also make a difference in getting hired for a position," adds Chris.

In addition, Chris points to networking and meeting people as important factors in your quest for a job that will be fulfilling. "Finally, stay positive through it all, because nothing comes easy. Good things happen to good people," concludes Chris.
