Basically, a sponsorship coordinator develops creative concepts and customizes sponsorship proposals to solicit new business. "I manage the development and execution of existing sponsorships at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall, and work to build upon the partnerships for the future," explains Meghan.

What this means, is meeting the needs of the sponsors, which includes providing tickets, arranging promotions or on-site advertising and assisting them with special events for MSG entertainment properties such as The Radio City Christmas Spectacular as well as College Hoops, Family Shows, the Radio City Concert Series and the MSG Concert Series. "In most cases I act as one of the primary liaisons to sponsors and to internal departments," explains Meghan. Among the sponsors she work with are the North Fork Bank, Hallmark Channel, Bacardi, Danskin, the Humane Society, American Airlines, American Express and Aeropostale.

Not Your Typical Nine To Five Job

"There is definitely overtime with this job. You have to work many nights and weekends, especially during the Christmas season. If there is an event that your sponsor is hosting, such as a party in the boardroom at the Music Hall or a college basketball promotional event, you have to be there," says Meghan.

To excel at this type of job, it helps to be personable, since you will be dealing with clients on a daily basis. "You also need to be able to multi task and be organized. You have to take care of a lot of things at once," adds Meghan, who holds a received her degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing and Communication from Fordham University in New York City.

Getting There

Meghan, who grew up in Long Island, always wanted to work in New York City, and had a passion for advertising and public relations. With this in mind she took related courses in college such as business, marketing and advertising. She also did an internship at Madison Square Garden in the Advertising Sales department during her junior year of college. "During my senior year, I received a phone call from Human Resources saying that there was a position open. They wanted to know if I would be interested in applying, so I did!," explains Meghan, who touts the power of internships as a great way of getting a foot in the door. "Also, the experience you will get out of an internship is going to benefit you in the long run and is the closest real world experience that you are going to learn from."
