It costs a lot of money to promote and market the Radio City Christmas Spectacular each year and someone needs to keep tabs on all of the money that is budgeted and spent for this purpose. As Manager of Entertainment Finance, Ross Rindner tracks & analyzes the marketing and public relations expenses for the Christmas Spectacular. "After all the expenses are tracked, I prepare various types of reports that describe how much money has been spent and what types of expenses have been incurred," explains Ross, who also keeps track of the finances from the tours of both Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall.
You Need To Be Good With Numbers
Having an aptitude for numbers certainly helps in this type of career and a degree in either accounting or finance is highly recommended. In addition, good computer skills are necessary as is the need to solve problems as they arise.
Ross, who has a BA in accounting, not only credits math, accounting and finance courses as being helpful, but adds that public speaking classes were also important, since he is often asked to discuss financial matters at meetings.
A Highly Recommended Field
Ross, who enjoys being part of the entertainment industry, which he calls, "fun, young and energetic," highly recommends pursing a financial career. "This is an excellent field to get into. You need to work hard in school and explore different internships to determine which industry you would like to get into. However, it is most important to look, listen and ask questions if you aren’t sure about something," advises Ross.
