Darius was born in Elektrenai, U.S.S.R (now Lithuania), and is a veteran of international competition. The 5-11, 218-pound defenseman is playing in his fourth Winter Olympics and he is making his third appearance with the Russian squad. In 1992, “Kaspar” played on the gold-medal winning team for the Commonwealth of Independent States before capturing the silver and bronze medals respectively in 1998 and 2002 with Russia. He has appeared in 20 career Olympic games, tallying one goal and four assists for five points, along with 12 penalty minutes. Aside from his Olympic experiences, Kasparaitis has played in a pair of World Cups of Hockey (1996 and 2004), won a silver and a gold medal at the World Junior Championships (1991 and 1992 respectively) and participated in two World Hockey Championships (1992 and 1996). Darius is known for his aggressive and physical playing style and is seen as a leader by his teammates on and off the ice.
