Martin was born in Plzen, Czech Republic and will be representing his home country at the Olympics for the second time (1998 Nagano Games). He has also represented the Czech Republic at the World Hockey Championships three straight years (2003-2005), at the World Cup twice (1996, 2004), and at the 1991 World Junior Championships. The 5-9, 174-pound forward ranks second on the Rangers in points (59) and is tied for first in assists (47) through 56 games this season. Along with line-mates Jaromir Jagr and Michael Nylander, Straka is part of one of the most formidable offensive lines in the NHL. "Straks" cites the gold medal he won for the Czech Republic in 1998 as one of his most memorable moments. Among teammates, Straka is known as a fierce competitor who is willing to sacrifice his body to make important plays for the team.

82 - Martin Straka

I was wondering do you love playing in the Olympics more than playing for your New York Rangers club? And would you like to stay in New York with Jagr for the rest of your career? - Mario, New York City
I love playing in New York and love being a Ranger. It has been such a tremendous experience, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I hope to finish my career here and win the Stanley Cup in New York.

What's the best thing about playing in New York? - Rich, New Jersey
The fans and the people of New York. There is just so much energy here and it is such a great organization to play for. I never knew it was such a great place to play.
