Styles of Dance: Tap
Sometimes no music at all is used for tap. Instead the tap dance itself creates a percussive rhythm. Other times music is used. Tap dances can be performed by any number of dancers, from one or two as in old Shirley Temple movies, to an entire Rockette line. Costumes usually show the leg and foot movements, and the shoes have metal plates on the ball and the heel. Tap dances are traditionally done on wooden floors, but have been done on other surfaces. Tap is usually performed as separate songs within other types of performances.
