Public relations for Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden are handled by Radio City Entertainment. Special campaigns are created, or ways of announcing and promoting the big events that will be taking place in these world famous arenas.
A public relations campaign for a new show like the Christmas Spectacular might include press releases, which are one page announcements about the event, that are sent to the media including newspapers and television stations. There might be a contest where people can win tickets or an opening night party. You may also see appearances by the stars of the show on TV talk shows or a special press conference where reporters get together to ask the people involved in the show questions so they can write it up in their newspapers or do reports on TV.
Susan Arons is in charge of public relations for Radio City Entertainment. She handles the public relations for the Radio City Rockettes, the annual Christmas Spectacular, the circus, family entertainment shows like Scooby Doo and much more.
Interviews, Photo Shoots & Meetings
Part of Susan's time is spent planning interview sessions between reporters and the stars or the producers of a show. She also goes to photo shoots to make sure that there are good photos to send to the media and attends plenty of meetings where plans are drawn up for ways to introduce the next big event.
The public relations department also needs to make sure that all is going well between the media and the producers and stars of the show. Susan checks her voice mail messages often to make sure no "issues" or problems have occurred at public relations events.
Meeting Lots Of People
Susan worked on the entertainment programming board of her college, helping to plan shows. She then worked at the famous Joffrey Ballet where she met all sorts of celebrities from The President of The United States to Sylvester the Cat. Next, she ran her own public relations agency for twelve years where she got to know numerous people in the media at places such as; Entertainment Tonight, The Today Show, Time Magazine and many other important places at which to book talent for interviews.
She advises anyone who wants to be in public relations to read plenty of newspapers and magazines to become familiar with popular culture, use your city as a place to absorb different cultures and experiences, take history classes, business classes and above all else always listen and learn.
