Maya Bentz - Long Island School for the Gifted, Huntington Station, NY
Curriculum Unit: Interactive Textbooks – In this unit, each student works on a chosen topic related to technology and creates an educational interactive textbook with text, graphics, animation, buttons, review questions, assignments, and a quiz. Check Presentation
 
Anne Bryant - Woodglen Elementary School, New City, NY
Curriculum Unit: In Their Own Words: Slave Narratives – In this unit, students learn about slavery through the actual words of former slaves. Using narratives from the Library of Congress, students learn the structure of, and how to negotiate, an LOC database. They learn to identify, use, and evaluate primary sources. Check Presentation
 
Tracey Butler - Arlington Middle School, Poughkeepsie, NY
Curriculum Unit: Individuality vs. Conformity – Individuality vs. Conformity, is centered on the reading of Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl. Students participate in numerous activities designed to spark their awareness of literature's ability to transcend the page and apply to one's own life experiences.
 
Mike Frerichs - Bardonia Elementary School, Bardonia, NY
Curriculum Unit: The Brady Chronicles: A Digital Story – This lesson is a collaborative project between the fifth grade social studies teacher, the school library media specialist, and the computer lab teaching assistant. It is designed in conjunction with the fifth grade social studies curriculum and the study of the Civil War. It provides students with a personal experience of important events as they create their own Civil War movie clip. Check Presentation

Curriculum Unit: How Do Deaf People Communicate in Society – The objective of this unit is for students to gain an understanding of the ways deaf people communicate in society. Moreover, students will gain an appreciation for handicapped people. Check Presentation
 
Michael Ludwig, Jr - Clarkstown South High School, West Nyack, NY
Curriculum Unit: Bringing Statistics Alive – This statistics unit eliminates some of the monotony of statistics by integrating interactive technology as well as using statistics from real-life situations instead of randomly generated data. Check Presentation
 
Elizabeth McNamara, Jr - Community Middle School, Plainsboro, NJ
Curriculum Unit: Prehistory Webquest – This WebQuest is a research-based project on pre-history. Students are in groups of five and each researches one specific hominid in the evolutionary line. They learn about lifestyles, achievements, and development; how geography and climate contributed to all three; and probable causes for their eventual extinction.
 
Kandy McDonald - James Wilson Young Middle School, Bayport, NY
Curriculum Unit: A Walk in Someone Else’s Shoes – Students utilize the Internet to harvest facts related to their topic on the plight of those less fortunate, and use an electronic worksheet for collection and to cite sources.
 
Jennifer Meschi - Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, Rocky Point, NY
Curriculum Unit: Peter the Butterfly Webquest – Peter the Butterfly is an interdisciplinary unit on caterpillars and butterflies. Students enhance their reading and mathematical skills in symmetry; observe and discuss the stages of a butterfly; enhance their creative thinking and map skills; and identify cardinal directions. Eva Morris - PS 164, Brooklyn, NY
Curriculum Unit: You Too Can Haiku – This thematic unit incorporates Social Studies, Math, Computer Science, Art, and English Language Arts. The students learn about the Japan’s culture, history, and location in relation to the United States. The students learn the characteristics of Haiku poetry and investigate syllabication.
 
Elvira Pettersen - South Side Middle School, Rockville Centre, NY
Curriculum Unit: Egyptian Expedition – As part of a curricular unit on ancient Egypt, students use the Internet, text resources, and word-processing skills to develop a research presentation on specified topics and a bibliography. Check Presentation

Curriculum Unit: Biomes Around the World – Students participate in an Ecology webquest that is modified from Mrs. LaCombe-Burby’s Ecology webquest. Check Presentation
