About The Heckscher Museum of Art
The Heckscher Museum was founded by Huntington resident/philanthropist, August Heckscher on July 10, 1920. The founding collection consists of 185 works from Heckscher's personal acquisitions and includes European and American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from the Renaissance to 1920. Today, the collection has soared to nearly 1500 European and American paintings, sculpture, and works on paper from the Renaissance to the present day- specializing in late nineteenth-century American landscape painting and early American modernism (first half of the 20th c.).
