High School: Uniquely American Art and Music
Aaron Copland was interested in creating a uniquely American musical sound for the twentieth century. American visual artists, as well as dancers and performers of this time were also struggling to create their own unique American genre. These artists changed the face of the arts in America and the way we experience works of art today. Along with this, discuss with your students some of the other important influences, people, technological advances, etc. in the twentieth century that changed society in a significant way. (For example, Native American art, folk art, the Depression, the FSA photographers on migrant workers and child labor laws, as well as the US entering World war II)
