Mister/Madam President

Making the Decision
Step Two:
Gathering Support
Step Three:
The Primary Process
Step Four:
The Convention
Step Five:
The Election
Step Six:
Electoral College

Step 2: Gathering Support

Activity 1:
First you will need a support staff. You will need to identify a Campaign Manager, a Pollster, and a Communications Director. Of course they will all want to be paid so you better hire a very good Fundraiser. Identify the members of your team. Fill out the form Campaign Team and make sure everyone understands his or her job description. Also, a good slogan can go a long way toward helping your candidate. Choose one now!

Scenario:
The process begins- traveling from town to town, talking to small audiences, attending county fairs and always raising money. Late nights and early mornings. Yesterday you were in Iowa and kissed a pig at a county fair. At night you attended a fundraiser where people paid $25 a plate to hear you speak. Tomorrow you will be in New Hampshire to discuss dairy subsidies. At night you will attend a party at the home of a supporter. People attending will be contributing $100 toward your campaign.

Activity 2:
You have a grueling schedule coming up. Pick one of your upcoming campaign stops and write a speech about the topic your aides say you should address at that stop:

Bronx, New York March 10th Discussing Your Views on Education
DesMoines, Iowa March 12th Discussing Your Views on Taxes
Montpelier, Vermont March 13th (Day) Discussing Your Views on Women's Issues
Rivervale, New Jersey March 13th (Night) Discussing Your Views on Social Security

After you prepare for your speech, you can concentrate on STEP 3: THE PRIMARY PROCESS starting with the first primary, in New Hampshire.
