FREEDOM FOR ALL
When the Pilgrims came to America, they were searching for something called "Freedom." This unit of study will involve simple research and cooperative group idea exchange so the students will be able to understand and communicate the concept of "freedom." This lesson is multidisciplinary and can be created in HyperStudio or PowerPoint later in the year or in more detail and with a higher degree of difficulty in the upper grades.
CIVIL WAR SCRAPBOOK
This lesson uses the web site Valley of the Shadow as a backdrop to explore the theme of individual conflict as it relates to the overall conflict between North and South. Students will use knowledge of the war to further explore the internal and external conflicts faced by individuals- on the home and the warfront. What would they do? What would you do? This interdisciplinary unit will encourage active engagement through the use of computer technology, specifically web quests, as well as primary source documents to explore the internal and external conflicts faced by all Americans during the Civil War.
DOCUMENT BASED QUESTION: BERLIN WALL
The Document Based Question is the new format for all the new Social Studies Assessments in Grade 5, 8, 10, and 11. Each grade will receive 5-7 documents (photos, govt. documents, letters, statistics) and an essay topic. They will have to use the documents to support a point of view in their essay. The Document Based Question provided here is created for high school but the Web makes it easy to create these types of questions for all grade levels.
